The Nikon D600

D600Just like myself, there are a lot of people wanting to know if they should buy Nikon D600 digital camera. Is it really a good camera that is worth the money? What about the other Nikon camera like the D7100 and D800?

In this website, you will find the information that you need about D600.

The D600 was officially announced in September 2012. It is a full-frame DSLR with 24.3MP, 36 x 24mm, CMOS sensor. This is a model developed for the photography enthusiasts and base on its price, it is by far the most affordable full frame camera in the market.

Many people would have noticed that the D600 comes in similar build quality and operational ergonomics compare with D7000 (and now the revised model D7100). One of the main reason why I like the D600 is that it matches or even exceeds the pixel count of some other full-frame DSLRs with a reasonable price point.

What Is Nice About The D600 Body?

nikon-d600-bodySince I am a Nikon person, when I first picked up the D600, I immediately feel very comfortable holding it. Good feel and very user-friendly. It is almost identical compared to the D7000 and D7100. You can hardly tell the difference.

Although the D600 is light weight, the camera feels as rugged as the Nikon D800 with its part-magnesium construction, and is weather sealed to the same degree against moisture and dust. Casing materials are up to Nikon’s usual high standard, with tactile rubberised inserts aiding grip levels.

The D600’s controls are very similar to the D7000 and D7100, with some additional enhancements. The most significant enhancement is the mode dial lock and shooting-mode dial lock, as these prevent users from inadvertently switching modes.

Just like the D7100, Nikon has included the U1 and U2 presets. This is so important as it is easily accessible when needed, with a flick on the dial. For example, you can setup U1 for indoor use, perhaps auto ISO with a targeted white balance, etc, and U2 can be used for outdoor use, such as landscapes, at say ISO 100, and easily switch between them. You will definitely find this very useful.

The viewfinder is framed with a rectangular eyecup.

The D600 comes with a built-in flash that in my opinion, produces great flash photography. It has a release that uses a mechanical button and it has a guide number of 12 meters at ISO 100. In addition, it has a command mode feature that allows you to fire remote flashes for up to 2 Nikon speedlight flashguns such as SB-600, SB-700, SB-800 and SB-900, through infra-red.

The shutter speed is 1/4000s at top speed. Base on my experience, this speed is sufficient to handle most of our photography needs.

There are twin memory card bays that accommodate two SD cards so that there can be simultaneous recording.

FX vs DX Format

As I was searching for information on my new camera, I was too thinking hard about this.
I know that FX format will give me more control on depth of field, a larger viewfinder and better exposure.
If you do not need a FX camera, then look at the D7100 model which is a cheaper camera and the rest of the features are pretty much the same as D600.

Conclusion

I would recommend that you take a good look at Nikon D600. This is a great opportunity to own a full frame camera with a low cost. The D600 is pretty much the same as D7100 but with a bigger CMOS sensor. Do you need D800? Well, I do not think you need the higher resolution of 36.3 MP found in D800. There are more than enough pixels in D600 for you to enlarge your photographs.
